In the 1950’s, the mentally retarded were among the most scorned, isolated and neglected groups in American Society. Mental retardation was viewed as a hopeless, shameful disease, and those afflicted with it were shunted from sight as soon as possible. As I write this, there is an intense debate in the United States over whether to include a “public option” in health care reform. While not arguing for or against the merits of a “public option,” the debate provides an excellent illustration of why the process of conflict resolution is easy (surprised by this example given the current debate?). Women now hold more jobs in the US than men for the first time in history. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) this Fall the number of women in the labor force surpassed men. Sometimes you may come across situations when you need to find someone urgently. It is like looking for a needle in a haystack if you do not have anything much to go from. You may just know that person’s earlier address or social security number and you want to find him.
